Square Weave

Square Mesh is used in the areas of screening and filtration. GKD produces sqaure meshes in its standard program with mesh openings of 0.025 mm to 14 mm on the basis of DIN/ISO 9044 (industrial wire mesh). Depending on the aperture, the woven wire mesh ismanufactured as a plain weave (1/1) or as a twilled weave (2/2). The standard materials used are stainless steels AISI 316 and 316L. Depending on the type of mesh, standard production widths range from 1.3 m to 3 m. Special orders can be produced in widths up to 8.1 m. To ensure shortest delivery times, stock is maintained for all of GKD's standard mesh types. Customer-specific orders make up a large part of the production volume for GKD's weaving department. GKD manufactures mesh to particular specifications and produces standard mesh in special materials such as Monel, Hastelloy, Inconel, or Titanium.

Dutch Weave

Plain Dutch Weave is an important component in the range of filter media which GKD supplies for filtration grades of approximately 40 µm. The cloth is manufactured in a plain pattern (1/1) in which the diameter of the warp (length) wires are greater than the diameter of the weft (width) wires. The surface of Plain Dutch Weave Meshes are closed and filtration takes place at the crossing point of warp and weft. These weaves have a considerably greater mechanical stability than plain open square mesh. GKD's available stock of Plain Dutch Weaves, with openings ranging from nomimal 40 µm up to nominal 85 µm, covers most of the needs for filter media in industrial filtration. Plain Dutch Weaves are used in drum, nutsch-type, and in cartridge filters. The materials used for these stock items are stainless steels AISI 304 and 316 (DIN 1.4301 and 1.4401). PZ-Microdur Weave

PZ-Microdur cloth was developed to provide fine filter cloths with improved mechanical stability for solid/liquid filtration tasks. The cloth is woven in a plain pattern but with many thin warp wires and relatively fewer, thicker weft wires. PZ-Microdur cloth is therefore often referred to as ‘Reverse Plain Dutch Weave’. This pattern makes it possible to produce wire cloths with apertures ranging from nominal 14 µm to 200 µm. PZ-Microdur cloths have proven to be excellent media in applications where great mechanical stability is required, such as backwashing, cleaning, or filter cake removal. Equipment in which PZ-Microdur cloths are used include vertical leaf filters (Niagarafilter) and Horizontal Pressure Leaf Filters, as well as centrifuges and backwashable cartridge filter systems. KPZ-Microdur Filter Mesh

KPZ-Microdur cloth was developed to meet the demands of applications requiring an even greater optimization of the mechanical properties of the filter media. These weaves are basically PZ-Microdur cloth modified through a twilled weaving pattern to achieve even greater stability. KPZ-Microdur cloth is primarily used for applications in precoat filtration with Horizontal Pressure Leaf Filters, centrifuges, and continuous polymer filters. More Information >

Twilled Dutch Weave

Twilled Dutch Weave is produced by weaving with fewer, thicker warp wires and a large number of thinner weft wires. Using the twilled weaving pattern (2/2), it is possible to create a light-proof mesh. The available media range is from 1 µm nominal aperture to 50 µm aperture. With the high density of the mesh, this weaving pattern ensures an extremely robust weave, even with very small apertures, making Twilled Dutch Weaves the optimal choice for a wide variety of filtration applications and filtration equipment. Twilled Dutch Weave isused in nutsch-type filters in the pharmaceutical and chemical industries, as well as for various types of precoat and cartridge filter systems. Because the production time for Twilled Dutch Weave is longer than that of other weaves, stock quantities of all standard weaves are maintained within the framework of a balanced production plan, guaranteeing the greatest possible availability for GKD customers. Twilled Dutch Weave is produced using the standard materials AISI 304L/316L (DIN 1.4306/1.4404); customer-specific production using special alloys such as Nickel, Hastelloy, etc. can also be supplied upon request. Multiplex Weave

Multiplex mesh is produced by weaving wire bundles in warp and weft, resulting in a woven structure characterized by a large number of pores. Multiplex Weave is typically used in drum filters and in special applications in precoat filtration. More Information >

Sintered Laminate

GKD-Sintered wire cloth laminates are stainless steel wire mesh layers which are permanently bonded by diffusion annealing. Depending on the stability and filtration requirements, the wire mesh layers can also be combined with perforated plates or metal fiber felt. While highly mechanically stable, the diffusion annealing maintains the filtration characteristics of a fine filter cloth. The flexible fabrication method enables GKD to manufacture and develop sintered mesh custom to each customer’s specifications and needs, even in small lots. GKD sintered laminate consists of five layers of selected metal meshes which are calendered several times and then bonded into one unit through diffusion annealing. Using sintered laminate offers several advantages: extremely high rating in mechanical stability and having no displacements within the wire cloth construction, sintered laminate also offers high filtration capacity due to surface filtration, and since there is no penetration into the filter media, sintered laminate is also easy to clean. Because sintered laminate is made from stainless steel (AISI 304, 316) and other special alloys, it is extremely resistant to corrosion, wear resistant, and operates in temperatures from -50°C (-58°F) to +550°C (1022°F). Other features include exact pore size distribution and permeability characteristics; excellent processing possibilities (“sheet metal characteristics”); the ability to produce custom mesh, specific to the customer’s specifications; and the ability to process into filter candles, circulars, discs, etc. as needed. Optimized Plain Dutch Weave

Optimized Plain Dutch Weave cloth is used wherever fine filtration rates, high flow rates, and high dirt holding capacity is required. Using special combinations of wires and mesh counts, Plain Dutch or PZ-Weaves are produced with a slotted surface structure, ensuring high flow rates and precise filtration rates. Optimized Plain Dutch Weave cloths are available with apertures ranging from 10 µm up to 80 µm. These cloths are less mechanically stable compared to PZ-Microdur or KPZ-Microdur weaves, and therefore are used only for smaller or well-supported filters. Optimized Plain Dutch Weave cloths perform excellently as filter media in filter elements for highly viscous products such as oils and polymers.

Tela Weave

Tela wire cloth, characterized by a 5-heddle-atlas pattern, is another development in filter media. This special weaving style makes it possible to produce wire cloth with open mesh, providing a high flow rate and great mechanical stability. It also creates an especially smooth surface which eases the removal of filter cake while ensuring trouble-free cleaning of the filter media. Tela cloths have proven themselves to be indispensible, especially in drum filter equipment and disc filters where the buildup of the filter cake, removal, and cleaning are performed in a continuous cycle. Tela Mesh is used in waste water treatment, process water filtration, and in mining. More Information >

YMAX® Weave

All YMAX® filter medias are composite structures with fine interstitial wires or fibers, woven into a heavier wire matrix. This provides efficient filtration performance in the range of 3 μm up to 100 μm. This unique precisely woven filter media can reach dirt holding capacities similar to a high performance fibrefelt, while its pore structure is absolutely homogeneous. This precision allows for optimized flow-rate properties, combined with low cut-points and high structural stability. YMAX® filter mesh removes fine particles even while operating at high process pressures. An additional characteristic of YMAX®, with its robust fibre-wire composite structure, is that it can be formed and tailored for application in many filter systems. Besides cylindrical and conical designs or plate filters, pleating is also possible. For further stabilization sintering further enhances performance. Available in widths up to 3.5 meters and lengths up to 20 meters, YMAX® has the unique ability to be used in back-flushing filtration processes. Such mechanical strength has been previously unheard of in filter media with such low cut-point and high dirt holding characteristics. GKD’s YMAX® is highly versatile in many industrial filtration applications such as mineral oil, vegetable oil, fine chemical, solvent and aqueous processes. More Information >
